The Principal Financial Group a "Best Place to Work in Information Technology"

July 2, 2008 (Des Moines, IA) — The Principal Financial Group® ranks 26th on this year's top 100 listing of International Data Group's (IDG) Computerworld “Best Places to Work in IT.” This marks the seventh consecutive year the financial service company has made the prestigious list. Also of note, The Principal® ranked 7th on the list for the number of women on the IT staff (44%), and 8th for the percentage of women IT managers (48%).

“The Principal is honored to once again be recognized by Computerworld as a great workplace for information technology professionals. We attribute our success to our more than 2,500 IT employees who come to work each day and find new ways to use technology to solve business problems,” said Gary Scholten, chief information officer and senior vice president of The Principal. “With the current economic conditions, information technology takes on an increasingly important role as companies adapt. Having an environment in which IT professionals can thrive is an important edge of The Principal.”

Computerworld noted The Principal for its generous support of flexible schedules, including compressed work weeks, part-time hours and telecommuting.

Since 1994, Computerworld's annual “Best Places to Work in IT” feature has ranked the top 100 work environments for technology professionals, based on a comprehensive questionnaire regarding company offerings in categories such as benefits, diversity, career development, training and retention.

“The competitive edge sought by the best and smartest companies is no longer information technology itself,” said Scot Finnie, editor in chief of Computerworld. “After all, IT has permeated the business processes of almost every department of virtually every enterprise. The new competitive edge is finding and retaining the very best people to chart and implement your IT strategy."
